In my machine, the feature didn’t work, so it was kind of pointless. The realistic and consistent colors option is a cool and time saving feature to show you what your building will look like rendered without waiting forever for the rendering to complete however this feature only works if you have a really new high end video card in your computer. The Autodesk website mentions that in passing as if it is a minor tweak, yet I hazard to guess that that feature alone would be the main reason for people to upgrade to Revit 2011.

I am kind of amazed that it took 3 years to re-implement that feature. Also after removing the feature in 2009 they finally restored render with a background image in 2011. I also liked how they added a close all hidden windows button on the ribbon. I liked that it remembered your last command and allowed you to repeat like in Autocad. That saves mouse clicks and makes selecting objects easier. They managed to make it clearer what objects you were loading by keeping the properties dialog for the object always open. Revit 2011 came out on Apand I downloaded and gave it a test drive. For that reason I passed on 2010 hoping that the 2011 edition would fix the flaws in 2010. In theory it was a great idea to implement a ribbon interface, so you could easily access often used commands such as the section command from any view, but the UI was not well designed making selecting objects confusing. Changing the UI the year after forcing customers to endure the material upgrade was not a good idea. The Revit team made a big blunder in my mind with the 2010 release.

Trees also appeared much more realistic than with the Accurender engine. The upside of the Metal Ray engine in the 2009 release was that it generated much more realistic images using natural and artificial light. I am sure many offices working on Revit projects felt the pain of that upgrade. Having to open every material in every family and locate a similar material or texture in 2009 or point to the original 2008 materials was very very time consuming. The 2008 version was very good and I was reluctant to part with it when 2009 came out.įrom a users stand point it was a big pain transitioning all of your projects to 2009 with the new materials library and rendering engine. I first started using Revit on version 9.1 and have upgraded to 2008 and then 2009. As a user of Revit for the past 3 years, I have come to look forward to the annual releases of Revit to see how they have improved the product over the previous year.
